Environmental Services can offer products and services ranging from reduction of different air emissions (NOx, SOx, CO, VOC) and adaption to different fuels, to oily waste water treatment and other water solutions.
The portfolio includes a range of products, solutions and services aimed at both land-based power plants and ship installations. As part of the portfolio, Wärtsilä offers catalysts (SCR) that reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, while scrubbers are offered for removing sulphur oxides (SOx). Both are harmful emissions with detrimental effects on humans and nature. Wärtsilä can also offer complete oily water treatment systems for power plants and marine applications that meet the most stringent standards. Our offerings cover total service packages, including start-ups, installations, engineering work, and maintenance and repairs.
Air Emission Solutions are per definition different ways of minimising emissions in the exhaust gas. Air solutions can be divided into primary solutions and secondary solutions.
- Primary solutions are defined as emission reduction methods which reduce the very formation of the emissions in the first place and hence, are engine related. Primary solutions are for instance: Low-NOx Conversions, Diesel-to-Gas conversions and Slow steaming kits
- Secondary solutions are defined as emission reduction methods which reduce the emissions after they have been formed within the engine. Secondary solutions are for instance: Wärtsilä NOR (NOx Reducer, based on SCR technology), Wärtsilä IOXI (Integrated Oxidation Catalyst) and the Wärtsilä SOx Scrubber
Water Solutions concentrate on minimising harmful substances in different kinds of water streams on marine and land-based installations. The current Wärtsilä water solutions portfolio encompasses solutions for treatment and monitoring of bilge, sludge and oily water from marine vessels and land-based industrial applications.
Low Sulphur fuel adaptation
Due to the new and coming regulations, the shipping community is faced with new challenges on a large scale, especially those ships that will operate both inside and outside restricted areas, switching from one fuel to another including also distillate fuels. The legislations are valid, not only for engines, but for boilers as well. Wärtsilä can advise on the adaption to different fuels.
Gas Conversion, ie rebuilding diesel engine to enable use of natural gas, lead to lower emissions of CO2, NOx, SOx and particulate emission and lower operating costs.
Propulsion optimisation; successful conversions with propeller efficiency increase up to 10% can be achieved in different kinds of ships and markets.
